Which teacher training programme suits you?

You have a secondary school diploma and want to become a teacher

Master programme Secondary Education
This is a master programme of 90 or 120 ECTS-credits. You can take this master programme after your academic bachelor programme.

This degree gives you the required competencies to teach in your field of expertise in the higher grades of secondary education.

Master programme Education in the Arts
This is a master programme of 120 ECTS-credits at the School of Arts. You can start this master immediately after your academic bachelor programme in the Arts.

This degree gives you the required competencies to teach in your field of expertise in the part-time arts education (DKO) and the higher grades of secondary education.

Bachelor programme Secondary Education
This is a teacher training of three years of 120 ECTS-credits at a university college. You pick two subjects you can teach (e.g. French and technology).

You have a bachelor or master’s degree and you want to take up a teacher training

Accelerated master programme Secondary Education
If you already hold a master’s degree, you can take an accelerated trajectory of 60 ECTS-credits to become a Master in Secondary Education.

This degree gives you the required competencies to teach in the higher grades of secondary education.

Accelerated master programme of Education in the Arts
If you already hold a master’s degree in the Arts, you can take an accelerated trajectory of 60 ECTS-credits to become a Master of Education in the Arts.

This degree gives you the required competencies to teach your subject in the part-time arts education (DKO) and the higher grades of secondary education.

Accelerated bachelor programme Secondary Education
You already hold a bachelor’s degree and are already an expert at your subject(s). You take a teacher training of 60 ECTS-credits at a university college.

You have work experience and want to become a (vocational) teacher

Associate degree programme Secondary Education
You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience. You take an associate degree programme of 90 ECTS-credits to become a teacher in your profession.

From the academic year 2019-2020 onwards, all teacher trainings will be organized by the university and the university colleges. The Centres for Adult Education (CVO) will no longer organize teacher trainings.

All teacher trainings of Ghent University Association guarantee a high quality education in East- and West-Flanders. This is our vision:

The components didactics and teaching practice are essential in all our teacher trainings.

We also offer trajectories for on-the-job teacher training (LIO) that are inviting, accessible and flexible.
