Alternative admission procedure

For students who have not obtained a degree in secondary education

Through the alternative admission procedure, it is possible for students who have not obtained a secondary education degree to enter a bachelor higher education study programme.

The alternative admission procedure is the same for every member institution and is free of charge. You can only participate once per academic year. If you pass the alternative admission procedure, you will receive a certificate of admittance. The certificate of admittance is regulated by the Validating Authority.

In order to be eligible for taking part in the alternative admission procedure, you must meet the language requirements and you must complete at least 21 years in the year of submitting your portfolio.
An exception concerning age requirements can be made for refugees, displaced people or virtuoso candidates. There is a specially adapted procedure for virtuoso and English speaking candidates. Their certificate of admittance is only valid within a specific arts discipline and only within the Ghent University Association.

For certain study programmes (such as “medicine”, “dentistry”, “audio-visual & visual arts”, “music & performing arts”) the candidate will have to meet additional admission requirements.
You should check these specific regulations on the website of the member institution of the Ghent University Association.

Recognition of Previously Acquired Competences (RPAC)

For over 10 years, it has been possible for students to follow a more individual study trajectory and to get previously acquired competences recognized in a higher education programme.

This is possible through a procedure called “Recognition of Previously Acquired Competences” (RPAC). Previously acquired competences encompass the knowledge, insights, abilities and attitudes which have been obtained through learning processes but have not been certified by any study certificate or evidence. Examples include the knowledge obtained during working experience, by working in associations, through voluntary work or by a bilingual upbringing.

A procedure was developed in order to examine the potential recognition of these competences. This procedure is the responsibility of the AUGent and is implemented by using the expertise of our partner institutions.

In this RPAC guide you can check the steps you have to take to obtain recognition of previously acquired competencies.

Over 5,000 students, 200 companies and organizations participate in the fair every year.
The 16th edition of the Graduation Fair will take place on Tuesday April 2, 2019 between 12 and 18 o’clock at the ICC Ghent. More information is to be found on the website.

Reorientation

Ghent University Association (AUGent) wants to dedicate itself to providing a good study orientation. AUGent wants to make sure that, in case a student has made the wrong study choice, he or she can be assisted in switching to a study programme which is better suited. In order to do so, students are given a “certificate of reorientation”. With this document, they can start a study programme within the same academic year at one of AUGent member institutions without having to pay the fixed amount of the study fee (€230) again. This is only possible if they register for a diploma contract or credit contract, not for an exam contract.
